Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. When she was young the father was a carnival barker and left her mother without a choice other than to become a cleaner lady and waitress in order to provide for the family. Ruth was a student at the school located in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. She quit the school she was attending just two years later in order to pursue the profession of acting. Her path to success turned out be strewn with obstacles: in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a magazine about crime However, the stage was not a match for her. While in New York, she worked at a bar as the check-in lady before resigning before moving to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a steady actor. She earned money by performing during the daytime in the ushering department. She graduated with a diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
